Microsoft (R) Internet Explorer (R) Security Issues

The Microsoft Internet Explorer issue identified by FireEye this week is a real threat. CBS recommends that you follow the instructions from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and use another browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and so forth) to surf the Internet until such time as Microsoft updates Internet Explorer. Using Internet Explorer within your CAMS-ii network should not cause problems.

We also recommend you also disable Adobe Flash for now as that seems to be the entry point of the virus. According to FireEye, disabling Adobe Flash stops the virus. Click here to access and print the instructions on disabling Flash in Internet Explorer.

Microsoft Internet Explorer is a critical piece of the CAMS-ii user interface, and it is required for CAMS-ii functionality. CAMS-ii does not properly function or handle any peripherals — scanner, card readers, and so forth — without Internet Explorer because of its support of ActiveX (R) controls. CAMS-ii does not use or require the Flash player.

Here are some reminders for safer everyday use of the Internet-- OUTSIDE of CAMS-ii:

Do not open any links within any emails that you receive. Type the address in the address or URL text box within a browser. If a link or a pop-up looks suspicious, do not click it. That's how viruses are activated, many times.

Do not close any pop-ups by clicking the X on the Close or Cancel button. Press Alt + F4 to close pop-ups.

Please direct any questions to your Support Center.
